Turning Toward the Light Together

December 2025

Rev. Bill Lyon

As the year leans toward its darkest nights, I am reminded how much light a community can generate simply by showing up for one another. In these early months of our shared ministry, I have seen that light in so many ways: in the warmth of a welcome, in the tending of our nature altar, and in the stories and hopes lifted each week during Candles of Community.

Our Congregational Renewal Weekend deepened that sense of shared purpose. Participation was strong, and the conversations—open, thoughtful, and hopeful—gave shape to what many of us already feel: something meaningful is taking root here. Our regional UUA facilitators reflected back to us what they witnessed in all three sessions: a striking alignment among the congregation, lay leaders, and Board. Not sameness, but alignment—a shared desire to listen, to collaborate, and to move forward together.

We also spoke about belonging—how essential it is in this moment, and how many are finding a sense of home and connection here at Heritage. Belonging grows not through programs alone, but through presence, curiosity, shared vulnerability, and the willingness to carry a bit of one another’s story. This congregation practices that daily.

Worship continues to feel alive in this season. Attendance is growing, but even more striking is the deep attentiveness and connection in the room. Our social justice commitments also remain strong, drawing new people into our circle and grounding us in our UU values.

As we turn toward a new year, my hope is that we continue nurturing these threads—belonging, alignment, and the shared light we create together. May we carry that light forward, within and beyond our walls.

I am grateful to be on this journey with you.
