The Power by Naomi Alderman

November 20, 2024 selection for Babes with Books meeting

7 – 9 p.m. in the Heritage Room

Reviewer Jaclyn Fulwood of Shelf Awareness describes the selection for the November meeting of the Heritage woman’s book club (aka Babes with Books or the BWB) as follows. “A suspenseful thrill ride filled with deep, contrasting female leads on a scaffolding of philosophical questions about how different men and women are at heart….Reminiscent of the work of Alderman’s mentor Margaret Atwood, The Power is perfect for book clubs, where readers will undoubtedly debate the finer points of nature versus nurture.”

The novel states, “The power to hurt is a kind of wealth and that newly acquired wealth upsets the societal balance of power.” A cautionary note to readers, the novel does contain some scenes of sexual abuse.
