Data Collected Through Automated Means

Personal Data We Collect

For people who subscribe to our church newsletter, we collect the following data:

  • Email Address;
  • Name;
  • IP Address;
  • Newsletter: Opens, clicks, opt-ins.

We also collect information that we store but that is not personally identifiable:

  • Logs of emails sent.

Consent to Collect

We collect data from users that have created newsletter accounts with us. Your clicking of the “Subscribe” button indicates your consent during the account creation process. A link to this page is provided during the account creation process.

We collect data from users who are set up with accounts that allow them to maintain the website, such as changing webpages and posting articles. Your use of the website for these purposes indicates consent for the data collected for your account.

The legal basis for us to collect the data is to be able to provide you with a service.

Media

If you upload or otherwise provide images to the website, you should avoid providing images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you have an account and you log in to this site (for example, to update a page or post an article), we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site or a newsletter subscription, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

We take reasonable measures to keep our service secure. In the event of a data breach or misuse, we will inform our users of what happened and what we have done to put it right within 30 days of our learning of such data breach.

Services and Third Parties Where Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church Stores Data from the Website

We rely on third party services to maintain our services. We never share or resell any of our data (unless such sharing is required by court order). The third parties are:

  • InMotion Hosting, U.S.;
  • MailPoet, France;
  • Google Analytics, U.S.

Length of Data Collection

We will keep identifiable data for an undetermined amount of time or until the user asks us to anonymize and / or delete their data.

Newsletter & Account Statistics and Reporting

We record behavioral data, such as opens and clicks, for newsletters we send.

Note: If a subscriber to the Heirloom newsletter doesn’t open any Heirloom newsletters (and allow the pictures to download) in a twelve-month period, the technology automatically marks that subscriber as “Inactive” and stops sending newsletters. It does this to keep the subscriber list an active one, so that Internet email processing programs do not categorize our newsletters as unwanted email.

Who Has Access to Our Data?

Data at our website is not shared with or sold to any third party (unless such sharing is required by court order).

Selected Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church staff members and volunteers have access to users’ data for the purpose of providing services.

For photographs and information on people other than the submitter, the webmaster and newsletter editor will publish only if there is a reasonable expectation that the person would not object.
