It’s Time to Deck the Halls and Put up That Tree!
Sunday, December 10, 2023, after the service and potluck.
If you’ve been at Heritage any longer than 12 months, you know that our sanctuary transforms during December into a beautiful celebration of the season, with a giant Christmas tree, a wreath for our beloved round window, and festive greenery all around. This year, we are combining the decking of the halls (er, of the sanctuary) with our monthly potluck lunch, so be sure to stay after the service on Sunday, December 10, for food, fellowship – and tree trimming!
This is a fun-filled time for children and adults (of all ages) alike. Wear your best Christmas sweater (if you dare), bring your Christmas playlist, bring a dish to share for the potluck, and get in touch with your inner elf as together we turn our sanctuary into a winter wonderland in preparation for our holiday pageant and Christmas Eve services. The whole family will enjoy this special time in the life of the church. See you there!

You are invited to eat your fill and then gather in the sanctuary as we put up—and decorate—our Heritage Christmas tree!

Winter Poetry
Thursday, December 28, 2023.
Two events starting at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively
Poetry Workshop, 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Imagine stepping into a forest glade at twilight and finding—what, exactly? Experience “Forest Vespers,” an imaginative guided meditation tailored specifically to writers, meant to generate inventive and unexpected images, phrases, and ideas. This workshop welcomes writers of any style and experience level and is led by poet and former Heritage Church member Erica Minton Reid. There will be an opportunity to share at the end of the workshop, with no pressure to do so.
A donation of $10 is requested for this fundraising event only. Please register here: https://huuc.breezechms.com/form/10a539 and include “poetry workshop” in the comment line. Your registration is a tax-deductible contribution to Heritage UU Church. Thank you!
After the workshop there will be a break for dinner.
Poetry Reading and Open Mic, 6:30 p.m.
All are invited to a reading featuring former Heritage Church member Erica Minton Reid, winner of the 2023 Donald Justice Poetry Prize for her debut collection Ghost Man on Second; and Dick Westheimer, a father and gardener living in SW Ohio who has taken up poetry to make sense of the world. Both Erica and Dick have published poems in Rattle and other poetry journals. Erica’s and Dick’s readings will be followed by an open mic.
