Described as part coming of age, part mystery and part tragedy, this novel has also been dubbed that unicorn of literature – the great American novel. Such is the January 17, 2024 meeting selection, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, by David Wroblewski, for the Heritage Women’s Book Club (affectionately known as the Babes with Books or BWB). This story follows the born mute Edgar who flees from the family’s northern Wisconsin farm to survive with three dogs in the woods until forced to choose between leaving forever and returning home to find the truth behind what happened. According to the Amazon.com synopsis, this NY Times bestseller is a meditation on the limits of language and what lies beyond it. Get a copy early since it is lengthy and the library has limited copies.
Future gathering dates and reads are currently as follows:
February 21 – Remarkably Bright Creatures, by Shelby Van Pelt
March 20 – Hello Beautiful, by Ann Napolitano
April 17 – The Maid, by Nita Prose
All BWB meetings are held from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Heritage Room, unless otherwise announced.
All women (be they members, or friends) are always invited to any BWB meeting – whether they have read the book or not. Unless otherwise announced, the meeting’s book selection is available, approximately a month in advance, on hold for the Heritage Book Club at the Anderson Township branch of the Hamilton County library.
