“Room at the Table”
Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
Rev. Bill Gupton leads this service
This Thanksgiving weekend, many of us have welcomed others to our table – or have been guests at another’s table. This practice of hospitality – of welcoming – cuts across all cultures, religions, and eras. As such, it appears to be an innate expression of the human spirit, a sacred manifestation of our belief in the “inherent worth and dignity of every person.” Today, let us reflect on this practice, let us celebrate being welcomed at the table – and let us commit to making room at our table, for all those who seek sanctuary with us.

Mystic Poetry and Hammered Dulcimer
Sunday December 8, 2024, 10:30 a.m.
Rev. Alexander Riegle of First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati leads this service.
Rev. Alex Riegle describes this service as “something a bit different than the usual sermon.” It will involve “mystic poetry interspersed with playing music on my hammered dulcimer. So, the theme is loosely spirituality by means of mystic poetry set in a reflective tone…”
Rev. Dr. Alexander Riegle is First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati’s developmental minister. Originally from Michigan, Riegle attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and the Harvard Divinity School. According the First Unitarian’s website, “Alex’s ministry is not rooted in his mind; he draws upon study of world religious traditions and his commitment to spiritual practice. His spiritual journey is one of heart and his ministry calls our best selves through the path of the heart.”

“New & Old: The Kin-dom Option”
Sunday December 29, 2024, 10:30 a.m.
Rev. Doak Mansfield, HUUC Minister Emeritus, leads this service.
The times are a challenge. In a few weeks, a new regime will take over in Washington, Rev Doak says of his message. I’ll speak of the spiritual resources my personal and professional life has taught me. Life offers fine lessons!
Doak served as HUUC’s minister from 1975 to 1985, and led the relocation from Salem Road to old Anderson High School and to HUUC’s present location. An avid amateur historian, he has served seven congregations during his fifty-year career, as well as ministry with the US Army Reserve (eight years as chaplain) and hospital chaplain. He received a successful heart transplant in 2010. Doak is the author of five books, two fiction (Mockingbird’s Ballad, Jones of Old Lincoln) and three non-fiction works (An Irreverent Guide to Spirituality, Kin-Ship Spirituality, and The Kin-dom Option). He is a portrait artist/caricaturist, old movie fan, avid reader, and will choose almost anything related to history over any other option for fun or recreation.
