Thanks go to Wyndham Draper, Susan Rahall, and Erin Spinney for signing up to help four homeless families on November 12. They will be working as Activity Host and Overnight Hosts. And, we still need two-to-three more volunteers to be Dinner Hosts.
Helping the homeless will occur at First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati, as part of the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) program. In this program, local congregations provide shelter on a rotating basis to homeless families for a week at a time. Within the church/ synagogue/ mosque/ temple, the families eat dinner, participate in activities, sleep as family units in the religious education rooms, and eat breakfast.
On November 12, we still need two or three people to be Dinner Hosts; this includes buying ingredients, preparing dinner, serving it buffet style, and cleaning up. There are usually around 15 to 22 people eating, which includes both the homeless staying there and the volunteers present. Individuals or families can sign up; it’s a great chance for older children and teens to learn about helping people who are less fortunate.
