Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church’s Minister Emeritus, the Rev. Doak Mansfield, has been called to serve the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Emerald Coast in Valparaiso, Florida. He will start his duties there on August 1.
Typically, it is retired ministers who are named emeritus/emerita by a former congregation, and Rev. Doak was indeed retired when he was named emeritus by a vote of our congregation in 2010. But then a heart transplant gave Doak, as he says, the miracle of a new life. He returned to official ministry, most recently at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church of Pasco, Washington. Now he has taken the position at Emerald Coast.
Rev. Doak served our congregation from November 1975 to January 1985. He was instrumental in increasing church membership at the time, as well as in leading our congregation to move out of a low-visibility location and to buy the land and begin construction of our current church building.
We wish Doak and his wife, Peggy, all the best.
