Preliminary Information. More details will follow at a later time.
Show support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community by marching in the Cincinnati Pride Parade with UUs from all of Greater Cincinnati. This is a family-friendly event; we had UU kids of all ages marching in the past. If you have a yellow “Side with Love” or “Standing on the Side of Love” tee shirt, this is a great opportunity to wear it.
UUs will meet at the designated staging area. Look for the “UU float” and come early to help decorate. The “float” will once again be Juli Rose’s black van with the big chalice on it. For those who cannot walk the parade route, there are several spots in the van available. We have also had people bring bicycles, strollers, wagons, mechanical scooters and even skates to help with their participation.
We have decorations and flags, so having people to help set up would be awesome. Homemade signs, especially those about transgender rights or other LGBT issues, are most welcome. If you need shirts, you can order from uuabookstore.org. The parade ends at Sawyer Point, where the Pride booths will be. For more information on marching with other UUs, contact MJ Pierson using the contact information at the end of this article. Info can be found at the Cincinnati Pride website.
Help people learn about Unitarian Universalism! It’s a lot of fun working a shift for two hours at the booth, talking with people, handing out information, and watching the crowd. In 2019 our booth made contact with at least 1,000 people! We ran out of our handouts. The Pride Festival takes place at Sawyer Point and once again is free for everyone! There’s food, drinks, vendors, and entertainment to fill your Saturday afternoon with fun.
Area UU congregations work together in the UU information booth. We give out general information on Unitarian Universalism, the UU Council of Greater Cincinnati, and also individual churches. Booth activity starts at the end of the parade and goes until about 8 or 9 p.m.
We can always use planners and artists. Please volunteer with MJ Pierson if you can assist in organizing or creating. Contact MJ at the email address or phone number at the end of this article.
Class to Develop Your “UU Elevator Speech”
Prepare yourself for a shift at the UU Price Booth! A class with the theme “Your UU Elevator Speech, or How do you talk about UU?” will be held on Zoom at a time to be determined in May. In the class, we will practice our UU message and talk about the timing of various levels of conversation based upon the interest of the asking individual. Have you ever tripped over your own tongue trying to tell someone about UU when you were asked? Let’s get some practice talking about our faith and our congregations.
