Sunday, Dec. 21: “Pop-Up Christmas Pageant,” Rev. Leslie Woodward

nativity_playIn what could be called “the easiest Christmas pageant ever,” we will tell the story of The Nativity with all the familiar players and carols and, yes, no actual rehearsal! This multigenerational experience will cast all characters on-the-spot, from shepherds to angels to animals, with basic costumes provided for everyone who wishes to participate. Come one, come all and be a part of our Pop-Up Pageant!

Sunday, Dec. 14: “Separate and Unequal,” Rev. Bill Gupton

urban_povertyIn the heyday of Jim Crow and segregation, the phrase “separate but equal” was code for racial discrimination. While prejudice and racism have hardly gone away, in the 21st century another insidious type of inequality has emerged to once again threaten our social order. The gap between the “haves” and the “have nots” is wider today than ever before. Inequality of income and opportunity, along with crushing debt, make a mockery of any alleged “economic recovery” – as does an obscene level of accumulated wealth and power enjoyed by a handful of ultra-privileged citizens. This morning we will examine the disturbing distribution of financial and social assets in 21st century America.

Sunday, Dec. 7: “The Sixth Sense,” Rev. Bill Gupton

laughing_manWe often think of our “sixth sense” as something supernatural or paranormal — you know, ESP and the like. But today Rev. Bill wants to explore a very natural sixth sense – one that we each have, but could all stand to strengthen – our sense of humor. Our Choir will sing (but not a “serious” song), our minister will tell jokes, and we’ll even get to see a humorous video. Expect to laugh during church this morning! What could be better than that?

2014.
