The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gatsby Cover 1925 (retouched)

As noted on Wikipedia, “The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel by American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. Set in the Jazz Age on Long Island, near New York City, the novel depicts first-person narrator Nick Carraway’s interactions with mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and Gatsby’s obsession to reunite with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan.” The novel includes consideration of social class, wealth, gender, race, environmentalism, and the American Dream. “The Great Gatsby is widely considered to be a literary masterwork and a contender for the title of the Great American Novel.”

“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And then one fine morning—So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Finding Your Piece of the Puzzle

We need your piece of the puzzle for our community to thrive! One of our Lifespan Faith Development goals for the 2022-23 year is to staff our Religious Education classes primarily with volunteers that are NOT parents of kids participating in your program. That’s right!

Intergenerational connection is essential to the thriving of a community. Parents are already the primary religious educators of their children. Consequently, parents need the bandwidth to connect with each other and with other adults in our church and our young people need other perspectives and connections to adults in our community.

Please consider exploring the world with our school age kids, serving as an Our Whole Lives (OWL) teacher (especially if you have previously been trained to do so), reflecting on your beliefs and experiences with our coming-of-age group, or supporting the leadership of our youth! Reach out by email to Laci Lee Adams, Director of Lifespan Faith Development, or schedule a meeting on Calendly (https://calendly.com/dlfdhuuc/45min) to find the right opportunity to connect with our young people and strengthen a vital ministry of our church. Laci’s email address is:

P.S. If you have read this and you still aren’t sure about volunteering in our RE program, but would like to find a way to deepen your relationship to Heritage—still reach out to Laci! There is an opportunity or need for all of us in this community!

September 2022.
