Heritage Church is part of an amazing network of congregations (Interfaith Hospitality Network, or IHN) that shelter the homeless. In our case, we provide services to First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati as it provides shelter to homeless families in its building for four different weeks in a year.
We very much need volunteers to cook dinner, and also a volunteer to sleep overnight, on Tuesday, June 18, 2018.
Typically, two households from Heritage act as Dinner Hosts and work together to plan a menu, buy the ingredients, and cook dinner for around 15 to 20 people. You can cook in First Church’s large kitchen, or in your own, or use some combination of those two approaches. You will eat with the homeless guests and clean up afterwards.
We also provide two Overnight Hosts, who make sure the building is secure, sleep on the premises in their own sleeping bags (unrolled onto cots), and are on hand in case there is an emergency. We already have our Female Overnight Host, but we are in desperate need of a Male Overnight Host.
The IHN program also involves an Activity Host, but Heritage already has a volunteer for that. First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati is located at 536 Linton Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.
If you can help as part of the Dinner Host team, or as the Male Overnight Host, on Tuesday, December 18, please contact Rae Jane Araujo at IHN@huuc.net.
