“We sit in the shade of trees we did not plant. We drink from wells we did not dig. ….Together we can build across the generations.” ~ Rev. Peter Raible (1929-2004)
We are thankful to those who came before us and left a lasting, permanent legacy for us to enjoy, and a passion for us to follow.
Do you feel that way about Heritage Church? Would you like to leave a permanent legacy? Something that clearly shows what you value in life and community?
The Heritage Church Endowment Fund was established several years ago to provide for the long-term stability of our church and facility. The fund operates according to guidelines that will allow income to be paid to the church when the fund reaches a sustainable level. In the meantime, it is invested following established investment principles, using low cost index funds.
An endowment fund is about the sustainability of a church. When lean times hit, it provides a base source of funding that may allow the church to carry on, even when annual giving is tight, for a year or two. An endowment fund helps diversify the church’s income source and reduces our vulnerability to every economic crisis. The fund is a mark of good stewardship, ensuring that our church continues working in our community for many years to come.
The Endowment Fund is always accepting new, unrestricted contributions. Many people choose to leave a legacy through their will, or by designating the fund as a beneficiary of an insurance policy, retirement account or even using a Transfer on Death designation. However, a gift can be made anytime. We can even help you establish a lifetime income plan through a charitable gift annuity or remainder trust. The fund can accept cash, securities, or other saleable, valuable property.
The fund is “unrestricted”; income is not dedicated to a specific purpose. Once it reaches the goal, the income is to be used for special programs and projects that enhance the mission of the church, apart from general operations, such as capital equipment, facility maintenance, or outreach projects. Ultimately, the Board must approve all funding.
Current members of the Endowment Committee are Rebecca Pace, Steve Kane, and John Sandman. If you have questions or would like to make a donation, talk with one of them, or send them a joint email at Endowment2@huuc.net. You can also contact Rev. Bill Gupton (SeniorMinister@huuc.net), with questions or plans.
