Rev. Bill Gupton.
We live in difficult times. Our free press is under attack. Truth itself is under attack. Trust is shaken. Our democracy seems to hang in the balance. One of the nominees for best picture at tonight’s Oscars ceremony, “The Post,” reminds us that there is historical precedent for what we are facing. At a time when the President of the United States was lying, and justice was being obstructed, courageous people in the press – and in our own Unitarian Universalist Association – were there to speak truth to power. Today we will reflect on fake news and truthiness, on Watergate and Russiagate, and on the saving grace of a free press.
