A much-loved monthly event for women, Heritage women have been participating in the First Church Singing In Sacred Circle for 10 years, and our founder, Shelley Graff, has participated in many Heritage Church Women’s Retreats. Now, with a different day of the week/month and so close to “home,” many more women will be able to participate. Singing In Sacred Circle begins at Heritage UU Church on Tuesday, September 12, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
This new Singing In Sacred Circle will meet the second-Tuesday of every month in the Heritage Sanctuary. It grew out of a desire within our ten-year-old, fourth-Monday Circle to have the opportunity to gather twice a month. Our singing circle has become a source of deep friendship, support and healing for many women across the city. This second monthly Circle is open to all women, and we hope Heritage women will help spread the word beyond our church walls.
Singing In Sacred Circle is an opportunity for each woman to look into her sister’s eyes and share voice and spirit through song. While learning short, repetitive women-centered and earth-based songs/chants from a wide variety of traditions, power rises from the center of the circle as all voices create an energy that is both empowering and healing. This opportunity is intended to allow women, regardless of singing experience, to share their voices in a noncompetitive, relaxed, safe space.
Shelley Graff, the facilitator, is a longtime teacher/healer/singer/songwriter who believes her sacred journey is guiding her to share the Singing In Sacred Circle experience with other women.
Percussion instruments are welcome! Come, sing along!
