As spring approaches, we all look forward to the flowers and warmer weather. I know that all of you along with me can’t wait for our annual pledge drive. We all have experienced this time of year, knowing what we need to do, but in reality, we really don’t look forward to it. The weeks-long pleading from the pulpit, phone calls, and a long stream of people saying why they love Heritage and why you should give to the place we all love.
We all know the drill. But why do we need to go through this exercise every year? Let’s be honest, not very many of us really want to do this one more year.
Wouldn’t it be nice, if we as a community could make a decision to put an end to this? I believe it’s time to make a change to our pledge culture. The Board of Trustees along with the Committee on Ministry have been looking for ways to change this. Why don’t we use this time of year to celebrate Heritage and what it gives to us? This time of year should be a celebration of our community. So, let’s put an end to the annual ritual of the pledge drive as we know it.
I am happy to say that we are going to shake things up this year. On March 25th we will have Money Madness Day. The day will kick off early for those who have to head out early to work on Saturday mornings, or are off to sporting events, with breakfast treats, coffee and juice. We will also have lunch together along with activities all day long. We plan on having tarot card readings, yoga, and music concerts along with other activities. Plus, for those with a competitive edge, our first annual March for the Money Madness Pop a Shot Tournament. Who wants to be the inaugural Pop a Shot Champion?! Along with all of that, there may even be a little March Madness happening around the church. While you are at Heritage enjoying the community, turn in your pledge card. Remember that your pledge is not just a monetary contribution to your church, it’s standing with others to support our spiritual home.
Let’s have a day of fun together and set a new tradition here at Heritage. Heritage is an amazing place so why can’t we make our pledge drive just as amazing? Join me in supporting each other and the place we love.
Yours in community,
