UU Women and Religion has a NEW course! The Grandmother Galaxy is the newest book by author Rev. Shirley Ranck, also author of Cakes for the Queen of Heaven.
THE GRANDMOTHER GALAXY STUDY GROUP (no need to be a grandmother to participate) is forming, and will be facilitated by Tracy Jo Small. The cost is $20, which includes the book and study guide. Please make checks payable to Heritage UU Church.
This study group will be limited to 10 adult women. In order to build trust and intimacy we ask that you be able to attend all 6 sessions. It is open to members and friends of Heritage UU Church. Child Care can be arranged in advance if requested.
Please rsvp to email@example.com or call 474-6607 for more information. Please contact her in confidence if you need a scholarship. For more information, visit The Grandmother Galaxy website.
(Independent of this, watch for a small group study session of the Cakes for the Queen of Heaven sometime in 2017.)
The Grandmother Galaxy asks us to consider:
“If wise old women were visible and powerful perhaps we would all be better educated about the female half of our religious history. If we honored the crone as a symbol of our earthly transformation, the cycle of death and new life, perhaps we would be less likely to destroy the life-giving systems of our planet. If we learned to respect indigenous cultures where old women are still revered, perhaps we could stem the violence against women, and between cultures, that pervades so much of our world. The Grandmother Galaxy explores some of these possibilities and asks: Could a growing galaxy of grandmothers lead us onto new paths for the future?”
