How can a person be a better ally to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or belong to some other minority (such as intersex and asexual)?
Some Heritage UU Church members developed a workshop addressing this area of personal growth, and presented it in May. Due to wide interest, the workshop is being offered again. The main topics are:
- values and privilege,
- terminology and language,
- what LGBT+ folks experience,
- avoiding unintended hurt,
- changing minds and hearts, and
- becoming an upstander (as opposed to a bystander).
The workshop will take place at Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church, 2710 Newtown Road, Cincinnati, OH 45244, on Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Morning coffee and snacks at breaks will be provided. Participants should bring their own brown-bag lunch (which they can store in the refrigerator or freezer and warm up in the microwave, if needed). If you need childcare, let us know and we will be happy to arrange for it.
The workshop is open to all adult Heritage Church members and friends, as well as to Heritage high school youth who have parent/guardian permission.
A series of optional discussion sessions may take place in the weeks following the workshop. This will be determined by workshop participants.
