How can a person be a better ally to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender?
Some Heritage UU Church members have developed a workshop addressing this area of personal growth. The main topics are:
- values and privilege,
- terminology and language,
- what LGBT+ folks experience,
- avoiding unintended hurt,
- changing minds and hearts, and
- becoming an upstander (as opposed to a bystander).
The workshop will take place at Heritage UU Church on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Morning coffee and snacks at breaks will be provided. Participants should bring their own brown-bag lunch (which they can store in the refrigerator or freezer and warm up in the microwave, if needed).
The workshop is open to all adult Heritage Church members and friends, as well as to Heritage high school youth who have parent/guardian permission. Childcare will be provided.
A series of optional discussion sessions will take place in the weeks following the workshop. Dates and times of these sessions will be determined at the workshop.
Workshop size is limited. Please reserve your spot by registering at SignUp Genius through www.tinyurl.com/HeritageAlly – Please register as early as possible, but no later than Tuesday, May 2.
