A new group is forming at Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or in other marginalized sexuality/gender groups, plus their allies, plus anyone interested and supportive. The group will be holding some get-togethers where everyone in the church is invited, and the main purpose will be to allow everyone to have fun and socialize. It will also provide a setting where allies and LGBT+ people can get into discussions with each other if they wish.
The name of the group is Let’s Gather and Be Together. It is a name that incorporates LGBT into the group initials, and also emphasizes the sociability and commonality of all who get together.
The get-togethers will take place once per month. To start out, the group will probably experiment with different times, trying get-togethers after church service on Sundays as well as on Friday evenings.
The plan is for different group members/participants to take turns planning get-togethers. One month, a person interested in crafts might plan an activity of making something, and the next month, a person who likes movies might plan a film showing. Other suggestions have included game night and dances. Food of some sort will usually be involved (of course)!
All Heritage Church members and friends, adults and teens, will be invited. Most get-togethers will be kid-friendly, but if not, childcare will be provided.
For information on the next get-together, look in the church newsletter, the Heirloom, or on the church website at www.huuc.net.
