Sunday, November 26: “Change Our Words, Change the World”

 Rev. Joan Van Becelaere

There is power in our words and our stories. Our words can tear down and destroy, or they can impart grace and hope to support all who hear them. We have a choice of which kinds of words to use and which kinds of stories to tell as we speak with to our spouses, children, colleagues, and strangers. Destructive language can damage lives. Grace-filled language can transform lives for the good. How can we use the power of our precious words wisely and effectively?

Rev. Joan Van Becelaere is a UUA Congregational Life Consultant and the new Executive Director/ Administrator of UU Justice Ohio. Prior to working with the UUA, she was the vice-president for student services at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO, where she also taught UU polity to seminarians. She lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her spouse, Jerry, and three felines (Ezekiel, Hezekiah and Zachariah).

Worship Associate: Shannon Murley.

Sunday, December 3: “Room at the Table”

Rev. Bill Gupton

As Universalists, we believe there is – or should be – room at the table for everyone. Literally, and metaphorically. Historically, we were the faith that insisted that God leaves no one out. This morning we will reflect on the moral and ethical imperative to include, the human impulse to exclude, and the calling of our Unitarian Universalist faith to “answer the call of love.” And if that weren’t enough, our Choir will sing for us as well!

Worship Associate: Jim Nolan.

Sunday, December 10: “The Importance of Ritual”

Rev. Bill Gupton

Human beings need ritual. They are one of the primary ways we mark the passage of time and the cycles of life. They help us make meaning, and separate the “ordinary” from the sacred. What are some of the ways we can bring more ritual – and thus, more meaning – into our regular, day-to-day, week-to-week lives? This morning we will also be blessed by special music from Mimi Sinclair.

Worship Associate: Suzanne Horton.

Sunday, December 17: “Pop-Up Christmas Pageant”

Rev. Leslie Woodward

Our Pop-Up pageant is so much fun that we’ll do it again this year! Our pageant tells the story of The Nativity with all the familiar players and carols and, yes, no rehearsal. This multi-generational experience will cast all characters on-the-spot, from shepherds to angels to animals, with basic costumes provided for everyone who wishes to participate. Come one, come all and be a part of our Pop-Up Pageant!

Worship Associate: Jenn Hester.

Worship Associate: Chris Whittaker.

Sunday, December 24 (7:00 p.m.): Christmas Eve Service

Sunday, December 24 (7:00 p.m.): Christmas Eve Service

Rev. Bill Gupton

Our annual Christmas Eve candlelight service is not to be missed! Each year we are moved by the beautiful voices of our HUUC Choir, memorable traditions such as “O Holy Night” and our candle-lighting ceremony, the telling of the ancient story, and the warmth of smiling, friendly faces on a cold winter night. Be sure to arrive early, as the sanctuary is always packed on this special holiday evening.

Worship Associate: Shannon Murley.

Sunday, December 31: “Noise, Noise, Noise”

Jim Nolan

Noise is all around us – so much so that we often don’t even notice it.

But what is noise - and how does it affect our environment?

Worship Associate: Shannon Murley.

What the Gift Says

by Barbara Rohrer. Last Thursday, the sky was only beginning to lighten outside the window of my second-story studio where I sit each morning, write, drink my green tea. A single bird chirped three times. I could not identify the bird by its call, but I knew what he was saying. It’s the same song that each of us sings …
