The Tammys Don Their Swim Burkas

Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., offsite.

When a group has met monthly for more than 25 years, a distinct culture and language evolves. The August 16 meeting of the Heritage women’s book club, known as Babes with Books or the BWB, combines both in a pool party/potluck with perhaps a discussion of the BWB’s classic, “sacred” text, The Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love, by Jill Conner Browne. Tracy Rossa will host this event; doors open at 5 p.m. (If you don’t know Tracy’s address, check the Church Directory on the website.) Tracy will provide sangria, ice tea, plates and silverware. Please bring a dish to pass that is heat/sun friendly. Should it rain, the event is cancelled. (Check with the BWB google group should that become a possibility.)

Come join this raucous group as we dust off our favorite phrases and stories from Browne’s unusual view of life in Jackson, Mississippi. Learn why each Babe owns the reverent title of Tammy. Learn why you should “never wear panties to a party” and other important rules of etiquette. You’ll wonder how you ever survived without such sage advice!

Copies of this life guide, first read by the BWB over 20 years ago but still funny today, are limited through the Hamilton and Clermont library systems. Still, Babes really need to own their own copy of this scripture that speaks to the BWB.

All women (be they members, or friends) are always invited to any BWB meeting – whether they have read the book or not. Unless otherwise announced, the meeting’s book selection is available on hold for the Heritage Book Club at the Anderson Township branch of the Hamilton County library, approximately a month in advance.

For inclusion in the BWB Google group emails, that provides further BWB directives and information, contact the Heritage office.
