Woe to the Status Quo

Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., in the Heritage Room.

Humorous chemistry, is that an oxymoron? Not so with the July 19 meeting selection for the Babes with Books, Heritage’s Women’s Book Club – also known as the BWB. The BWB selection, Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus, is a novel that shows how far women have come in the last sixty years. Perhaps we’ll also discuss (among our other, off-topic, sometimes ribald ruminations) how far we’ve yet to go during our July 19 meeting in the Heritage Room from 7 to 9 p.m.

This humorous novel’s protagonist, Elizabeth Zott, may not be real but we wish she was, or maybe we are Elizabeth Zott. Amazon.com describes the novel about a chemist turned TV cooking show icon as follows: “Elizabeth’s unusual approach to cooking (‘combine one tablespoon acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride’) proves revolutionary. But as her following grows, not everyone is happy. Because, as it turns out, Elizabeth Zott isn’t just teaching women to cook, she’s daring them to change the status quo.”

All meetings are held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Heritage Room, unless otherwise announced.

All women (be they members or friends) are always invited to any BWB meeting –whether they have read the book or not. Unless otherwise announced, the meeting’s book selection is available on hold for the Heritage Book Club at the Anderson Township branch of the Hamilton County library approximately a month in advance.
